The day of Pentecost is celebrated fifty days after Easter, as its name — in the Greek language — indicates. At Pentecost, since the time of Christ’s incarnate Presence, it is the descent, the gift of the Holy Spirit to man that is celebrated, and it becomes the beginning of the spreading of the Truths, which the Lord taught, through the Apostles.
The significance of Pentecost is great. It is not just a day that reminds man the enlightenment of the Apostles by the Holy Spirit, but it declares to him the potential for the descent of the Spirit and the overshadowing of every man by It. The Holy Spirit is not granted by God only to the Apostles. It is granted to every man that truly tries to harmonise himself with the Divine and longs for the Divine Gift. That is the great message that the day of Pentecost carries.
At the time of Christ, on the day of Pentecost, as it refers in the Acts 2:1-13, the Apostles were gathered at the same place. The Holy Spirit descended and, like tongues of fire, sat upon the head of each Apostle, who immediately manifested the capabilities which they acquired by the Divine Enlightenment and Effect.
That fact is considered by many as an offering of God to His chosen few. But this is a mistake. Because God does not differentiate between people, He calls upon all to follow Him.
However, Ηe is Righteous and Omniscient and knows the inner “being” of every man. He knows his spiritual evolution, his effort for improvement and ascent, his honest longing. His Mercy and His Love embrace all people, but He provides to each one according to the struggle and the devotion he has shown forth, according to his ability and readiness to bear the Divine Grace and the Gifts and manifest them in a perfect manner. (…)
Granting apparent Grace directly to man from God opens up the way of a new course. The course in which man and God, coming into contact and communication, will collaborate, so that with the help of God humanity escapes from its earthly bonds and is exalted to Heaven. The day of Pentecost has a deeper interpretation that shows and explains precisely this course.
